Resident diversity, equity and inclusion
At Corewell Health in West Michigan, we pledge to take on the challenge to eliminate racism and its impacts on health, hope and lives, both within our organization and in the communities we serve. In 2020, we have reaffirmed this commitment with a Pledge to Act. Racism is a public health crisis.
Creating an interconnected, collaborative culture where all are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work is vital to the health of our organization. As a health system, we advocate for equity as we care for our patients, our communities and each other. We strive to foster and advance inclusion and diversity in our workforce, workplace, leadership, faculty and programs. We believe in equity for everyone.

- Diversity Journal Club
- Diversity Grand Rounds
- Cultural subcommittee groups
- Diversity and Wellness Lending Library in the Resident Lounge
- Business Resource Groups - employee led and formed around common demographics, characteristics or shared interests
- Cultural competency workshops
- Diversity, equity and inclusion monthly newsletter
- Diversity resources and events shared on dedicated intranet
Resident Diversity Showcase
The Resident Diversity Showcase, hosted by the Office of Medical Education, is an annual event that provides medical students, especially those underrepresented in medicine, an opportunity to meet program directors and resident physicians at Corewell Health in West Michigan. Participants learn about the compassionate environment within graduate medical education – one that fosters diversity and inclusion efforts and promotes resident and fellow education and well-being.
The event includes:
- Residency program highlights, including our partnership with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine
- Life as a resident in one of our 16 residency programs at Corewell Health in West Michigan
- Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and wellness support provided to residents
- Research and scholarly activity
- Clinical simulation
- Panel discussions with program directors and residents
