Spectrum Health Continuing Care has the largest rehabilitation program in the region. Every day our 600+ specialized rehabilitation team members work with over 1,500 patients at more than 60 locations. We treat a wide range of conditions, from common injuries to medically complex conditions, across multiple settings. Our comprehensive services include inpatient, outpatient and home-based rehabilitation. Spectrum Health Rehabilitation delivers results that are competitive with regional and national providers. Our clinical expertise and commitment to quality care are evident in our voluntary participation in accreditation through several prestigious accrediting organizations in the country.
Our multispecialty team is led by a group of highly regarded physical medicine & rehabilitation physicians, also known as PM&R or physiatrists, who are trained to evaluate the impact of injury on function and develop effective, comprehensive rehabilitation treatment programs and plans. As specialists in pain, physical dysfunction and rehabilitation, physiatrists bring tremendous value to the care team within acute care, emergency room, outpatient therapy, inpatient rehabilitation facilities and outpatient specialty clinics. They are available 24/7 and should be consulted early in the care delivery process for patients at risk of physical impairment, delayed physical recovery or need for post-acute care.
Spectrum Health has two levels of inpatient rehabilitation: acute and subacute. We also have our long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) known as Select Specialty. Our expert team will guide you to the appropriate level of care based on your patient’s rehabilitation needs. The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Blodgett Hospital provides acute rehabilitation for patients who have both therapy and medical needs and require daily oversight by a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, or physiatrist. Subacute inpatient rehabilitation is offered at our five rehab and nursing centers for patients who are unable to return home safely after hospitalization and are unable to tolerate the intensity of rehab required at the acute level. Patients at this level of care have less acute medical needs requiring physician oversight. Depending on the patient’s individual needs, the rehabilitation team may include:
