Our pharmacy teams at Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals have been offering ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency training since 1998. Our teams currently offer both Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) and Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) residency training opportunities.
Our PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies. Through learning experiences at our Butterworth, Blodgett, and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospitals and numerous ambulatory care clinics in Grand Rapids, MI, our PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residents gain skills that allow them to manage the medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions.
Our PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available. Our PGY2 Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership, and Pediatric Pharmacy Residents are provided opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy.
